How to read U.S. one-year return leaders
The U.S. Annual Return Leaders radar shows the best trailing one-year performers among U.S. large caps above $10B market cap. Instead of one-day spikes, it surfaces the names that held capital for a full year — the clearest read on the market's structural themes.
Selection rules
The screen sorts U.S.-listed stocks above $10B market cap by trailing 12-month return and keeps the top 20. The $10B floor keeps the list on large caps that genuinely led the market rather than small speculative movers.
- Top 20 names by trailing one-year return, descending.
- Stocks below $10B market cap and preferred listings are excluded.
- Ranking uses cumulative one-year performance, not the daily move.
How to interpret it
The annual leaderboard mirrors the year's structural themes. Whatever industries fill the top of the list — AI, semiconductors, obesity drugs — are the market's leadership, and turnover in the list's composition signals a leadership rotation in progress.
- A list clustered in one industry means that theme still leads.
- More new faces versus last quarter suggests leadership rotation.
- A high one-year return far below its 52-week high hints at fading momentum.
How to respond
Long-term leaders tend to attract buyers on pullbacks, but valuation risk accumulates with the gains. Reading this screen next to the Korean annual leaders shows which themes are global and which are local.
- On pullbacks in leaders, use the U.S. 52-week-high radar to confirm re-breakouts.
- Themes shared with the Korean annual leaders are global leadership themes.
- When top names start breaking down, check whether the whole theme's cycle is ending.
